The Complete Guide to Growtopia For Beginners

Disclaimer:In this guide we will be providing recommendations for the newer players of Growtopia (or GT for short). We are aware that some of the other posts may also have guides but we will try to combine all the guides into one whole post. So please take some time to read through.\
Arrival in Growtopia
Congrats! You have created your own GT character! You will spawn at the world START to learn about the World of GT. So what should you do next?
What to do now?
Beginners are recommended to enter a new world (just type a name on the world search box)
You will find yourself (hopefully) in an uninhabitated world. Start Punching dirt and cave background. You will get dirt, dirt seeds, cave background, cave background seeds and even a few Gems. Keep everything you get and continue to break blocks until your Gems count reaches 50. (The counter can be seen at the top right corner, represented by a red gem and a few numbers beside it) Then, click on the red gem to open up the item shop. You should use the 50 Gems that you earned to buy a Small Lock.
(If you have not done so yet, become a supporter of GT! This involves earning 1000 gems through Tap joy offers, which can be tedious, but you get the recycler tool which enables you to exchange unwanted items such as dirt for a few gems! In addition, you get newer skin colours, namely Red, Green, Cyan, Purple and White)
Or if you prefer, you could break a bit more blocks until you saved up around 200 gems. You can use them to buy a Big Lock.
Small Lock-Locks 10 Spaces
Big Lock-Locks 50 Spaces
Huge Lock-Locks 200 Spaces
World Locks lock the entire world! It costs a whooping 2000 gems to buy, so be sure to save those gems!
If you get a small lock or a big lock, choose a world name you really like. Again, make sure its uninhabitated, then place your lock above the white door (this is where visitors enter your world)
And surround the place with dirt. Then, click once on your fist. It should now be changed to a wrench. Use the wrench on your lock by clicking on it, and then press the ‘ignore empty air’ button and the button which says ‘Re-adjust lock’. This world is now yours, and you should have a decent amount of dirt and cave background seeds. You can obtain rocks and rock seeds by breaking rocks, and you can find lava seeds if you dig deep enough.(Be careful not to touch the lava, as 6 repeated touches will kill you) Build up a decent supply of all 4 types of seeds, and you are ready to start planting and splicing.
Whats Next?
Splicing is simply an act of combining two seeds. For example, when you click a seed in your inventory, there should be white squares on the screen to show where you can plant the seeds. Plant a seed, then select another seed and plant it on the EXACT same spot. You will then create your first spliced tree. Here are some basic examples of splicing seeds:
dirt + cave background = door
dirt+ door = grass
lava + dirt = wood
At this point you may be wondering, since dirt and door makes grass, and dirt and cave background makes door, why not plant a dirt seed, then splice it with a cave background seed AND then another dirt seed? Well, unfortunately, when you try something like that you will see a message:”It would be dangerous to try to mix 3 seeds”=you can’t do it. Also, the higher the rarity of an object (e.g. dirt rarity 1) the harder it is for it to drop seeds, and the quantity you get from harvesting the tree is lesser. However, the rarer the item, the more gems it drops when it is destroyed. You should try to splice as many trees as possible, since harvesting a tree drops gems.
[Recommended] Continue breaking blocks (aka farming) until you reached 2000 gems, where it is preferable to get a world lock (WL) and lock your entire world. This means other people who have no access to the world cannot break your creations. After all, you would not want your hard work to be destroyed by someone else, would you?
[Recommended] Farm until you reach another 2000 gems. Buy another WL and go get yourself some sugarcane seeds (roughly around 30 seeds per WL) Sugarcane is not available in the store (unless you buy the rare seed pack, but we will be skipping that) so you have to go buy from other people. This is where the trade system comes in handy.
Trading
Trading is a risky affair. You may be trading with a person who likes to rip off others or a person who likes to scam, so be aware. Check the market world for different prices on different items so you know how not to incur a loss. Use the trade system when trading.(This is done by using the wrench on the tiny wrench symbol besides that persons name) If the trader asks you to DROP your WL and he will drop his sugarcane, one word: DON’T. If you are trading in your world, you risk him taking your dropped WL. If you are in his world (that is to say, he is the owner), you risk being BANNED from the world the moment you drop your WL. Either way, it is bye-bye 2000 gems if you drop that WL.
Extremely Important: Scammers
Growtopia is a real-life MMO, so you are interacting with hundreds of different players around the globe. Most of them are honest, trustworthy, kind, and possess a bunch of other charming personalities. This is a fun bunch to make friends and chat with. However, there is a dark side too. In GT there are people out to steal you stuff if not protected properly, and this people will stop at nothing to take all your valued items.Beware offers that seem too good to be true, especially when the owner is not someone you know. At the risk of sounding clinch, DO NOT PARTICIPATE OR RUN ANY DROP GAMES. We understand some players would like to 'get-rich-quick', but running a drop game has been and ALWAYS will be illegal. Unless you want to get yourself a ticket to the world HELL for a 2-day(or more) 'vacation', STAY AWAY from drop games. The moderators are always on the alert trying to wipe out drop games, so if you run one, you are wasting their efforts to make GT a better place. Even worse, if you are a participator, you may lose your items, which is bad, or get banned accidentally, which is worse.

Optional: Making Friends
It is rather lonely to play GT all by yourself. In order to have fun even while doing tedious things such as farming, go make some friends!
For example, when you meet another guy who has similar interests as yours, why not become friends? Simply use the wrench on the person, but instead of choosing 'Trade', choose 'Invite as friend' If he accepts it, you will become friends!
[Remember to stand near to him/her when inviting him/her as a friend, or invitation will not be sent]
